Edible Images Handling and Storage
đ° Edible Image Instructions
Our edible images are printed with premium food-safe ink on high-quality icing sheets. Follow these simple steps to ensure a flawless application.
â ď¸ Essential Tips & Storage Rules
⢠  Timing: Apply the image 1 to 3 hours before serving so it has time to meld into the frosting without getting soggy.
⢠  Refrigeration Warning: Keep unapplied icing sheets in their sealed plastic bags in a cool, dry, dark pantryânever refrigerate or freeze images as condensation ruins them. Once applied to a cake, try to avoid long refrigeration times; moisture from the fridge can cause the design to wrinkle.
⢠  Dark Frosting Tip: If placing images on highly saturated or dark buttercream, the colours can bleed upward into your design. Stick to light/white frosting surfaces or use a thin piece of white fondant beneath the image to insulate it. We highly recommend our Fondant-Backed option for dark frostings and professional crisp looks.
đ How to Apply Edible Images to a Cake
1. Â Â Prepare a Smooth Base: Ensure your cake is completely iced and levelled. Fresh buttercream, crusted buttercream, fondant, or ganache all work beautifully. Avoid using fresh whipped cream, as its high moisture content can cause the image to bleed.
2. Â Â Trim the Image: If your image isn't pre-cut, use clean, dry kitchen scissors to cut it to size while it is still attached to its backing sheet.
3. Â Â Peel the Backing: Clean and dry your hands completely. Gently peel the icing sheet off its plastic backing.
4. Â Â Adhere the Image:
o   On Buttercream: Simply place the sheet onto freshly smoothed, slightly tacky frosting.
o   On Fondant or Chilled Ganache: Lightly mist the area with a tiny bit of water or brush a very thin layer of piping gel or water onto the back of the image to make it tacky. Avoid using too much water, or the colours will run.
5. Â Â Smooth it Out: Lay the image down from the center outward. Use a cake smoother or clean, dry hands to gently pat and massage the image down, pushing any trapped air bubbles out to the edges.
6. Â Â Finish with a Border: Pipe a decorative buttercream border (like stars or rosettes) around the perimeter of the image. This conceals the edges and frames your design beautifully.
đ§ How to Apply Edible Images to Cupcakes
Cupcakes are even simpler but offer a few different styling paths depending on how long they need to sit.
⢠  Method 1: Direct to Buttercream (Best for Same-Day Serving)
Pipe a smooth swirl or flat dollop of buttercream onto the cupcake. Peel the pre-cut circular image from its backing sheet and press it gently onto the center of the icing. Pat down lightly to secure it.
⢠  Method 2: Fondant Disc Topper (Best for Crisp, Flat Looks & Prep in Advance)
If you are using dark frosting (which can bleed through the image) or want the toppers to remain perfectly flat without sinking into soft frosting, use a fondant backing.
1. Â Â Roll white fondant very thin (about 3â6 mm).
2. Â Â Cut out circular discs using a cookie cutter that matches your image size.
3. Â Â Lightly brush the fondant discs with a tiny trace of water, place your edible image on top, and smooth it down.
4. Â Â Let the discs dry on a flat surface for a few hours to harden, then pop them right onto your cupcake swirls.
